-
Your discharge process is important.
-
Your length of stay in hospital depends on the type of procedure and the anaesthetic used. It may be only for a few hours. This is discussed with you before admission. However, consultation with your specialist, nursing staff and yourself will decide when you are ready for discharge.
-
Please ensure that you see the nursing staff before you leave the ward to make sure appropriate checkout procedures have been completed.
Transport
You should not drive or travel on public transport following your treatment. For your safety we recommend that you have a responsible adult accompany you home and, if possible, stay with you for the first 24 hours. You should try to rest over this time.
Follow-up
You will be given written instructions about your procedure, medications and any post operative care required.
Follow-up appointments with your specialist are scheduled before you leave the hospital. If you have any problems before your next appointment please contact your specialist or hospital.
We will follow you up in the days after discharge with a phone call where you will have the opportunity to seek any advice needed. Please also feel free to contact us directly to discuss any issues or questions you may have. This is in addition to any in person appointments we have made for your follow up care.
Feedback
Selina Sutherland Hospital welcomes feedback as a means to identify areas where we can improve and confirm what is working well. We would appreciate it if you could complete the patient questionnaire in your admission pack.
Please feel free to address any concerns, complaints or suggestions to the Charge Nurse Manager - Vicki Bulmer, in person or in writing.
